Original in its design, this credenza is also unique in its use of rye straw.
Rye straw marquetry is often used in the ornamentation of furniture, walls and smaller objects. It was all the rage in the 1920s with Art Deco designers like Jean Michel Franck. However, when used, it usually completely covers the piece it is decorating, not showing anything else.
But here at L’Atelier the love of wood is just so that it would be impossible to adopt a woodless design. The marquetry brings contrast and a refined decorative element to a harsher solid oak wood structure.
Why nature’s gift? Because straw is very rich in silica which gives it a natural and unique shine.
